The numerous martial arts prevalent today are broadly classified into armed and unarmed practices. Armed practices most often involve the use of flails, sickles, and knives in addition to body movements whereas unarmed practices use movements of arms, legs and torso to execute formative patterns.
The sequential movements combined with physical mobility are utilized for static and dynamic defensive and offensive patterns. Many martial art forms such as fencing and archery are today competitive sports, while Judo, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido and Kung Fu are for most part used for self- defense. Many others like Tai Chi Chuan are also popular as healthy exercise regimens.
At FIGHT 'N' FITT we believe that perhaps the most important unifying aspect of martial arts that originate in East Asia are their ancient roots in Zen Buddhism, which has resulted in our trainers laying emphasis on the mental and spiritual aspects of practice besides perfecting physical movement patterns.
